This course is designed to offer an update on the latest research findings and clinical applications in the diagnosis and treatment of self-destructive behaviors. It will inform attendees of the changing body of knowledge and evidence-based interventions to help assess, treat, and ensure the safety of adolescents, adults, and their families. The scientific basis and warning signs for self-harming behaviors such as cutting, skin picking, harmful eating, trichotillomania, as well as suicidal behaviors will be discussed and treatment interventions will be offered. Interactive learning formats, including group case discussions, Q and A, panel presentations, video, and didactic lectures will be used to assist the learners in developing new strategies that they can apply in their practice settings. The course is intended for all mental health and health clinicians and others interested in the treatment of self-harming behaviors.
