This comprehensive Sports Medicine course provides an in-depth, multidisciplinary approach to common musculoskeletal conditions by regional anatomy; providing a thorough overview of the evaluation and management of injuries using best evidence-based practice. Physiatrists, orthopedists, radiologists, physical therapists, athletic trainers and other sports medicine professionals with expertise in each topic will discuss both non-operative and surgical assessment and management of sports injuries, including the role of diagnostic imaging and interventional procedures, and rehabilitation to restore function, with the goal to facilitate safe and accelerated return to play. The course presents an interdisciplinary approach to the care of the athlete, including new and emerging treatments accounting for age and gender, incorporating common and complex cases to synthesize learning. Advanced topics will include para-sport injuries in the shoulder, update on scapulothoracic abnormal motion, exercise in pregnancy and pelvic floor dysfunction in runners, cutting edge treatment for foot and ankle tendinopathy, sports cardiology and pulmonology and effects of COVID-19, cannabis use in sports, sex differences sleep medicine, and safe, responsible and cost-effective use of orthobiologic interventions. We will also have a session focusing on population disparity in sports medicine; including youth physical activity disparities and bias in sports medicine.
